Isolation Sequence #2

Clarification:

The forearm strikes of the isolation sequence are called modified because although they are referred to as strikes, they may also be referred to as blocks. This depends chiefly upon one's intent of the maneuvers.

1)

Direct your attention 90-degrees (clockwise horizontally) to your right (toward rear) as you settle into a horse stance facing forward (toward rear) with a right, thrusting, modified, upward forearm (toward rear) simultaneously with a left, thrusting, forward (straight), hand-sword to solar plexus height on your (vertical) center-line, palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing to your right (toward left-flank).

2)

Execute a left, thrusting, modified, upward forearm (toward rear) as you circle (counter-clockwise horizontally) your right arm over your head (toward front) and then spiraling downward and forward (toward rear) to deliver a right, hammering, inward, outside forearm to solar plexus height at your (vertical) center-line, palm pointing upward (toward up) and knuckles pointing forward (toward rear).

3)

Continue the circle (counter-clockwise horizontally) of the right arm to now spiral upward and backward (toward front) to deliver a right, modified, upward forearm, simultaneously with the circle (clockwise horizontally) of you left arm over your head (toward front) and then spiraling downward and forward (toward rear) to deliver a left, hammering, inward, outside forearm to solar plexus height at your (vertical) center-line, palm pointing upward (toward up) and knuckles pointing forward (toward rear).

4)

Again, continue the circle (counter-clockwise horizontally) of the right arm to now spiral downward and forward (toward rear) to deliver a right, hammering, inward forearm, simultaneously with the retraction (toward front) of your left arm to chambered position at your left side.

Elaboration:

Throughout the following maneuvers (5a-6a), the left arm remains immobile in the chambered position.

5)

Execute a right, outward (toward left-flank), 2-finger, slice to eye height, palm pointing downward (toward down).

6a)

Execute a right, inward (toward right-flank), 2-finger, slice to eye height, palm pointing upward (toward up).

6b)

Without any loss of momentum, immediately execute a right, outward (toward left-flank), 2-finger, slice to eye height, palm pointing downward (toward down).

7a)

Execute a right, hammering, downward, shape of the crane to head height (toward right-rear-flank), fingers pointing downward (toward down) and knuckles pointing forward and diagonally-offset to the left (toward right-rear-flank).

7b)

Without any loss of momentum, immediately retract (toward lower-left-front-flank) your right arm to a modified chambered position at your right side, palm pointing downward (toward down), simultaneously with the execution of a left, thrusting, inward forearm (toward rear).

Clarification:

The chambered position of the previous maneuver (6) is called modified because the shape of the crane is maintained throughout this maneuver.

Elaboration:

Throughout the following maneuvers (7a-8a), the right arm remains immobile in the modified chambered position.

8)

Execute a left, outward (toward right-flank), 2-finger, slice to eye height, palm pointing downward (toward down).

9a)

Execute a left, inward (toward left-flank), 2-finger, slice to eye height, palm pointing upward (toward up).

9b)

Without any loss of momentum, immediately execute a left, outward (toward right-flank), 2-finger, slice to eye height, palm pointing downward (toward down).

10a)

Execute a left, hammering, downward, shape of the crane to head height (toward left-rear-flank), fingers pointing downward (toward down) and knuckles pointing forward and diagonally-offset to the right (toward left-rear-flank).

10b)

Without any loss of momentum, immediately retract (toward lower-right-front-flank) your left arm to a modified chambered position at your right side, palm pointing downward (toward down).

Clarification:

The chambered position of the previous maneuver (8) is called modified because the shape of the crane is maintained throughout this maneuver.

Elaboration:

After the previous maneuver (8), both arms are in modified chambered positions at their respective sides.

Visualization:

The following sequence (9-11b) starts at a closer distance to the body and progresses further from the body, until the final position approximates punching distance in front of the body. In other words, close (9), medium (10), and far (11a-11b) distances.

11)

Circle (right counter-clockwise / left clockwise - vertically) both hands simultaneously, toward (toward front) and then away from (toward rear) your body to deliver double thrusting downward 2-finger slices to eye height, palms pointing upward (toward up) and fingers pointing forward (toward rear).

12)

Rotate (right counter-clockwise / left clockwise - vertically) both hands such that both palms point toward each other (right toward right-flank / left toward left flank) as you deliver double thrusting, vertical, 2-finger pokes to eye height, fingers pointing forward (toward rear).

13a)

Continue the forward momentum of the previous maneuver (10) to deliver double, thrusting, thumb and pinky (2-) finger pokes to eye (thumb) and mouth (pinky finger) height, while maintaining their same relative spatial orientation.

13b)

Immediately, rotate (right counter-clockwise / left clockwise - vertically) such that both hands invert (vertically) their positioning, palms pointing away from each other (right toward left-rear-flank / left toward right rear-flank) and fingers pointing forward (toward rear).

Elaboration:

The previous maneuver (13b) effectively executes a double thumb and pinky finger (rotational) (2-finger) slice.

13c)

Immediately rotate (right clockwise / left counter-clockwise - vertically) both hands back to their original positioning at the start of the previous maneuver (13b).

Elaboration:

The previous maneuver (13c) effectively executes a double thumb and pinky finger (rotational) slice in the reverse direction from the previous maneuver (13b).

14)

Cross (right toward lower-right-rear-flank / left toward lower-left-rear-flank) and drop (toward down) both hands, in downward claw positioning, to conclude at upper hip height, hands closed; right in front of (toward rear) left hip / left in front of (toward rear) right hip; with your right arm on top of (toward up) your left arm, knuckles pointing downward (toward down).

Variation:

The previous maneuver (14) could also be executed to conclude with hands open with palms facing forward (toward front) and fingers pointing upward (toward up).

Elaboration:

The previous maneuver (1a) begins with the hands open, but concludes with the hands closed. The closing of the hands should occur near the conclusion of the maneuver, immediately prior to its focal point.

Elaboration:

The previous maneuver (14) may also be interpreted as a downward universal block and part of the opening defense for the next technique.
