Circling Fans (left side)

Visualization:

The following upper body maneuvers (1a-2) approximate an overlapping vertical figure 8 in front of and perpendicular to the body.

Clarification:

This entire sequence (1a-3) should be timed to be executed as a continuously flowing series of maneuvers.

1a)

Direct your attention 180-degrees (counter clockwise horizontally) to your left (toward right-flank) as you replant (toward down) your right foot onto the left-right horizontal line (right-flank to left-flank) into a left fighting horse facing forward (toward right-flank) with the circling (clockwise vertically) of your left hand to deliver a direct downward heel-palm parry to hip height and on your (vertical) center-line, while also repositioning (toward upper-left-flank) your right hand to a right positional cover at right shoulder height, palm pointing to the left (toward right-front-flank) and fingers pointing upward (toward up).

Visualization:

The circling (counter-clockwise vertically) of the left hand of the previous maneuver (1a) begins the first part of the figure 8.

Variation:

The rotation of the left hand of the following sequence (1b-2) may vary based upon how much (rotational) torque the practitioner wishes to add to the following upper body maneuver (2); where the typical standard is to allow the hand to rotate naturally as the motion progresses.

Clarification:

The chambered position of the previous maneuver (1a) is called transitional because the left arm doesn't completely stop, and it is call modified because the hand typically remains open during this part of the movement, with a non-specific hand rotation. Although, the practitioner may optionally decide to close the hand at this point in its progression, and also create a transitory standard chambered position.

1b)

Rotate (counter-clockwise horizontally) into a left, modified, 90-degree, cat stance facing forward (toward right-flank) as you circle (counter-clockwise horizontally) your right hand to deliver a right, direct, downward, heel-palm parry to hip height and on your (vertical) center-line, while also continuing the circle (counter-clockwise vertically) of the left hand which transitionally converts into a left, modified, chambered position.

Clarification:

The cat stance of the previous maneuver (1b) is called modified because the lower part of the stance is oriented for cat positioning, but the upper part of the stance is oriented for forward bow positioning

Visualization:

The circling (counter-clockwise vertically) of the left hand of the previous maneuver (1b) begins the second part of the figure 8, while the sustained circling (counter-clockwise vertically) of the right hand (1b) continues on the figure 8 pattern.

1c)

Execute a left, thrusting, front (ball) kick (toward right-flank), while continuing the circular (counter-clockwise vertically) motions of your right and left hands.

Elaboration:

The previous maneuver (1c) should be started as the right hand of the prior maneuver (1b) reaches the bottom part of the circle, which translates into three extremities moving simultaneously an in-sync with one another - the upper body circular (counter-clockwise vertically) and the lower body linearly (horizontal).

Clarification:

The method of execution for the kick of the previous maneuver (1c) is considered thrusting due to the fact the it never fully retracts, but its partial retraction is instead used for the proper positioning (depth) for the following maneuver (2).

Visualization:

The circling (counter-clockwise vertically) of the left hand of the previous maneuver (1c) continues to travel on the figure 8 pattern.

2)

Replant your left foot back onto its starting line (right-flank to left-flank) as your shift (clockwise horizontally) your stance into a left fighting horse facing forward (toward right-flank) simultaneously with a left, thrusting, vertical back-knuckle to face height (toward right-flank), along with the conversion of your right hand into a positional cover at hip height, palm pointing to the left (toward right-flank) and fingers pointing upward (toward up).
