1a) |
Direct your attention 90-degrees (counter-clockwise horizontally) to your left (toward left-front-flank) as you replant your right foot back to its original position (at the start of the previous side of the technique), then immediately draw your left foot forward (toward right-front flank) into a left, 45-degree, cat stance facing forward (toward left-front-flank) with a right, thrusting, inward block (toward left-front-flank) to lower face height, palm pointing to your left (toward left-rear-flank), which concludes with hand open; simultaneously with the drop (toward down) of your left hand shaped into a vertical 2-finger, poke formation, at your left chest level, fingers pointing forward (toward left-front-flank). |
Elaboration: |
The inward block of the previous maneuver (1a) begins with the hand closed, but concludes with the hand open. The opening of the hand should occur near the conclusion of the maneuver, immediately after its focal point. |
Visualization: |
The fingers of your left hand should now have direct line of sight for the next maneuver (1b) - without the need to travel around the right arm nor to reposition the right arm to accommodate the linear motion of the left. |
1b) |
Execute a left, snapping, vertical, 2-finger, poke (toward left-front-flank) to eye height, palm pointing to the right (toward right-front-flank), simultaneously with a left, snapping, front (ball) kick (toward left-front-flank) to groin height. |
Elaboration: |
The path of the left arm should travel such that the backs of the arms glance (or almost glance) each other (weaving) during the execution of the poke. |
1c) |
As you retract both the poke and kick (from 1b), simultaneously retract your right arm backward (toward right-rear-flank) in front of your right shoulder, simultaneously with closing your right hand; while maintaining its same general orientation and height, forearm pointing toward left-front-flank and knuckles pointing upward (toward up), in preparation for the next maneuver (next technique). |
Explanation: |
The replanting of the left foot is purposely left to the following sequence to call out the fact that there is no definite transition between the maneuver sequences; other than the retraction of the right arm, which is arguably integrated into this maneuver series. |
