Eighteen Hand Movements


The original offensive and defensive directional movements of the upper body taught in the Shoalin Temple.

 

Comments:

 

Historical tradition and texts say that the Shoalin Temple originally taught that there were eighteen (18) directional angles that one would use in offensive and defensive scenarios.

 

The first Eight (8) angles correspond with the Dividing Lines, Eight Major Angles of Attack, Eight Major Angles of Defense, Eight Major Angles of Balance, Clock Principle, and Directional Zone Principle with the plane being parallel to the body and perpendicular to the ground. from a training horse stance - for each hand (8 + 8), plus straight ahead (1 + 1). totaling 16 angles.
