Circling Wing

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

1a)

Transition (Step-thru + Pin + Positioning)

Coordination

Improper shoulder / arm / foot maneuver timing

-

Correct timing:

·Shoulder pin should be completed at the start of the foot maneuver (before left foot begins to move)

·Chamber of the arms should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the settle into the reverse bow

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution direction

-

Entire technique should be executed on the diagonal line (1:30H-7:30H) and not the major line (12:00H-6:00H)

Improper foot reposition

-

Step should conclude on the right (3:00H) side of the right diagonal line (1:30H-7:30H)  (so the next maneuver has proper alignments without further foot adjustments)

Execution - Execution

Missing maneuver

-

Shoulder pin should not be overlooked with shoulders raised to close the entire gap between the shoulders and side of head

Execution - Alignment

Improper stance

-

Maneuver should conclude into a right, reverse bow: not neutral bow or horse stance

Lean of stance (forward - away from attention)

-

Back should be kept relatively perpendicular to the ground upon completion of maneuver

Gaze

Improper head turn

-

Head should remain in-line with body with attention directed over right shoulder

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

1b)

Elbow (Downward) / Pin / Four-finger Poke

Coordination

Improper elbow / hand / foot maneuver timing

-

Correct timing:

·The right, downward elbow execution should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the rotation of the foot maneuver into the offset horse (neutral bow) position

·The right, pinning forearm executed to be timed to conclude simultaneously with the settle into the forward bow

·The left, four-finger poke execution should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the pin and the settle into the forward bow

Improper maneuver conclusion

-

Elbow should remain as recognizable maneuver (and not be merged with following maneuvers) - although this maneuver should flow smoothly into the following maneuvers

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Fingers should be spread apart with thumb tucked to the side of the palm area (not extended as independent digit)

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

2)

Elbow (Upward)

Coordination

Improper timing

-

Elbow execution should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the shift in stance to the side horse (although the stance never completely settles)

Execution - Alignment

Improper stance

-

Strike should conclude into side horse (not forward bow)

Execution - Weapon Formation

Improper hand formation

-

Left hand should be converted into check (not remain in four-finger poke formation)

Maneuver(s) / Topic / Issue

-

Improvement

3)

Hammer-fist

Coordination

Improper check / strike / foot maneuver timing

-

Correct timing:

·Right arm should stop upward momentum (at conclusion of previous maneuver) and be positioned correctly with rotation of body

·Retraction of left hand should be timed to conclude simultaneously with the rotation into the reverse bow

·Hammer-fist maneuver should begin after rotation into reverse bow is completed (not in-sync with rotation, but in-sync with settle into the reverse bow)

Execution - Execution Angle

Improper execution angle

-

Hammer-fist should be executed to 3:00V (not 1:30V) (i.e., parallel to the floor)

Execution - Alignment

Improper hand / wrist alignment

-

Wrist should be bent such that the knuckles of the hammer-fist remain relatively parallel with the floor

Lean of stance (forward / backward)

-

Back should be kept relatively perpendicular to the ground upon completion of maneuver

Improper weight distribution

-

Concluding weight distribution should be left (40%) / right (60%)
