Downward Block (Heel-palm) Section

form_pattern_downward_block

The downward block / heel-palm sequence is as follows:

1)rotate into a left neutral bow with a left downward block while simultaneously retracting the right arm into chamber
2)step through forward with the right foot into a right neutral bow with right thrusting heel-palm strike, while simultaneously retracting the left hand to a left cover position
3)draw the right foot toward the left into a right forty five degree cat stance while simultaneously retracting the right arm across the waist with the execution of a double-factor, left inside downward, palm up block
4)rotate into a right neutral bow with a right downward block while simultaneously retracting the left arm into chamber
5)step through forward with the left foot into a left neutral bow with left thrusting heel-palm strike, while simultaneously retracting the right hand to a right cover position

The obvious information derived from this sequence is:

it advances from the transitory (cat) position

it only utilizes the neutral bow stance

it shows both sides of the sequence (opposites)

Analyzing this sequence further exposes the following information:

the sequence steps onto a minor angle (instead of a major angle)

the sequence introduces the heel-palm strike

the sequence starts the 'x' pattern (only the lower part)

the foot maneuver demonstrates the step through forward with a strike (instead of a block)

Downward Block Specific Information

The obvious information derived from the Downward Blocks is:

the block is defensive

the block emphasizes the power principle of torque

both blocks use the hammering Method of Execution

Heel-palm Specific Information

The obvious information derived from the heel-palm is:

the strike is offensive

the strike is a long range weapon

the strike emphasizes the power principle of back-up mass3

both strikes use the thrusting Method of Execution

this is the first demonstration of the heel-palm strike in the forms

Transition Specific Information

The obvious information derived from the transition is:

Point of Reference in stance is not 6:00 - but rather 4:30

the transition is 225 degrees (left) and 90 degrees (right)
