Why is Short Form One a ‘defense only’ form?

Short Form One is the first form of the system. As such, it lays out the foundation on which all of the rest of the forms build. And, blocking is the most important element of a ‘self-defense’ system. In other words – one of the first things a beginning student should learn to do is defend themselves. Therefore, Short Form One is isolated to doing defensive maneuvers. This allows the practitioner to only concentrate on defensive positioning and maneuvering, without the added complications of offensive maneuvers.
