Common Focal Points

1)

Long Form Three's contains a large number of horse stances.

A major theme, in this case the theme stance, of Long Form Three is the horse stance. These horse stances are not limited to only the isolation sequences, but are also places throughout the form for other various reasons and at various angles.

2)

Long Form Three foot pattern expands upon previous patterns.

Long Form Three's foot pattern is basically two (2) star patterns placed one above the other. This continues to expand upon the patterns established in previous forms.

3)

Long Form Three concentrates on linear and circular motion combinations.

A major theme of Long Form Three is an exploration into the transition from linear motion to circular motion and vice-versa. This is commonly referred to as circles and lines.

4)

Long Form Three is sometimes referred to as the two horse form.

This moniker comes about because the main foot pattern of Long Form Three traverses through two predominate horse stances throughout its execution, one in front of the other. The beginning of the form starts in off-angle horses, the middle of the form radiates around a single horse stance (horse #1), and the ending of the form moves back to the same relative starting area, to conclude in a final horse (horse #2).

Note: Although this is a popular moniker, it is not very accurate. This is because this name ignores the fact that there are a large number of horses throughout the form. A far more accurate moniker would be the many horse form.

5)

Long Form Three concentrates upon attacks which are applied and minor in-flight aggressions.

The theme of applied (dead) and minor in-flight (semi-live) attack concentration derives from the fact that Long Form Three continues and expands upon this same theme, a theme which was started in Short Form Three. This is important because this fact helps reinforce the definition of short and long form from a systematic perspective.

6)

Long Form Three ends exactly one stance from where it starts.

The foot pattern of Long Form Three, if executed without any of the foot maneuver variations, purposely concludes exactly one stance length (horizontally) from its starting point.

7)

Long Form Three continues to expand upon foot maneuvers.

One major addition to the expansion of the foot maneuvers is that Long Form Three contains two (2) of the three (3) switches contained in the basics division of the system.

8)

The Isolation Sequences of Long Form Three demonstrate potential options against grabs.

Long Form Three's isolation sequences are in-line with the major theme of the form, concentrating solely upon options against direct, cross, and double grabs to both the upper extremities and the shoulders.
