a) | proper alignments: |
i) | dimensions: |
1) | height - groin level |
2) | depth - knee slightly bent (not hyper-extended) |
3) | width - center of body |
ii) | body alignments: |
1) | foot: |
A) | heel pointing directly downward |
2) | toes bent back to expose ball of foot (toes pointing upward) |
3) | ankle bent to point toes forward |
4) | knee directly inline with foot and hip |
5) | upper body / hips - Forward Bow rotation |
iii) | Point of Contact - ball of foot |
iv) | stance - Forward Bow positioning |
b) | proper formation - weapon (foot): |
i) | foot - kept flat |
ii) | toes: |
1) | bent upward to expose ball of foot |
iii) | ankle bent forward to point at target (ankle = wrist of foot - for punch) |
c) | execution: |
i) | Method of Execution - Snapping |
ii) | execute directly to target (prevent cocking / arching line of travel) |
iii) | improper execution: |
1) | improper speeds / methods: |
A) | executed too slow (transforms into push with ball of foot) |
B) | executed too tense (unable to achieve proper 'snap' of strike) (strike looks 'pushed' out) |
C) | strike not tensed at Point of Contact (improper timing / never tensed) |
2) | improper alignments / angles: |
A) | incorrect extension: |
I) | knee over bent (full reach of strike not achieved) |
II) | over extended (knee hyper-extended) |
B) | incorrect positioning: |
I) | ankle not bent forward |
II) | toes not bent backward (exposing toe tips to contact) |
a) | execution errors: |
i) | foot re-chambered after kick (pumped). Doing this causes kicking foot to have to be re-extended (extra motion) to position for next maneuver (buckle) |
ii) | lifting heel of supporting foot during kick execution (caused by over extending reach of kick) |
a) | Common alignment errors: |
i) | never bending toes upward to expose ball of foot |
iii) | over / under rotating hip / body at perceived point of contact of kick |
iii) | leaning, either backwards or forwards, during execution of kick |
Example of a proper front kick (left)
(with punch)
Example of proper front kick formation
Example of improper front kick
formation / alignment
toes not bent, ankle bent up,
ankle bent to side, over rotated
Examples of improper front kick execution
knee hyper-extended & too high,
knee under extended,
foot not flat, leaning backwards
