After learning to execute any form in the American Kenpo system, one must begin to consider how the form fits into the design of the system itself. Each form has its place, purpose, and overall contribution to the structure of the American Kenpo system. Long Form One is no exception.
Long Form One's essential purpose and contribution is the continuation of the foundation laid out by Short Form One. As such, it contains all of the movements and concepts Short Form One introduced, but then expands upon both. And, with each new movement comes associated principles, rules, theories, and concepts. Yet, this expansion is done in a very precise and calculated way. Each new movement either has a direct backward link to Short Form One or a direct forward link to one of the other forms in the American Kenpo system (such as Short Form Two) - i.e. there are no extraneous movements.
As the overall analysis of Long Form One progresses, one should become keenly aware that this form exemplifies the definition of an American Kenpo form. And as such, the expansion of Short Form One is accomplished by adhering to this definition - not diverging from it.
