Explanation: |
The following maneuver (1a) is not considered part of the technique, but rather a transitional maneuver between techniques. |
1a) |
Direct your attention 180 degrees (clockwise horizontally) to your right (toward front) as you rise (toward up) out of the kneeling position, then immediately right step backward (toward rear) into a left, transitory, modified, twist stance facing forward (toward front), in preparation for the next maneuver. |
Clarification: |
The twist stance (1a) is called modified because it is extremely shallow and improperly rotated. |
Visualization: |
During the foot maneuver (1a) of this sequence, the toes of your right foot should touch (or almost touch) the outside edge or your left foot at the heel. |
1b) |
Unwind (clockwise horizontally) into a transitory, modified, natural stance facing forward (toward front) with the drop (toward down) of both your open hands in front of their respective sides at hip height, palms pointing inward (right toward left-flank / left toward right-flank) and fingers pointing downward (toward down), in preparation for the next maneuver. |
Clarification: |
The natural stance is called modified because of the wide positioning of the feet, the exaggerated bending of the knees, the slight forward positioning of the arms (in front of the hips instead of being directly to the side), and the right foot staying onto the ball of the foot throughout the transition. |
1c) |
Left step to your left (toward left-flank) as you jump (toward left-flank) into a left one-legged stance facing forward (toward front) with the delivery of a right, thrusting, vertical, inward middle knuckle to rib height, palm pointing inward (toward left-flank) and knuckles pointing forward (toward front), simultaneously with the delivery of a left inward parry to face height (toward front). |
Visualization: |
The retraction of the right foot can be visualized as a right, glancing instep kick (toward left flank) to the inside of the potential opponent's right leg. |
Elaboration: |
The inward middle-knuckle (1c) should continue past its focal point and conclude on the left side of the body at rib height. |
2) |
Redirect your attention 45 degrees to your right (clockwise horizontally) as you deliver a right, thrusting, diagonally-downward side kick (toward lower-right-front-flank) to knee height, while maintaining the same relative positioning and orientation of your hands. |
Elaboration: |
The conclusion of the kick (2) should be with the foot fully extended (not retracted), such that the step of the next maneuver (3) starts where the kick concludes, traveling directly downward (toward down). |
Clarification: |
The planting of the right foot should be interpreted as a right stomp (to the Achilles tendon on the back of right the leg of the potential opponent's ankle and executed to be in-sync with the back-knuckle strike. |
3) |
Plant your right foot into a right neutral bow facing forward (toward right-front-flank) with the delivery of a right, thrusting, diagonally-downward, outward back-knuckle (toward lower-right-front-flank) to rib height, palm pointing diagonally-upward (toward upper-left-rear-flank) and knuckles pointing to the left (toward left-flank), while maintaining the same relative positioning and orientation of your left hand. |
Visualization: |
The right arm of the next maneuver (4) should essentially ratchet from the conclusion of the previous maneuver (3), only to the new height, while the left hand travels on a slight arcing (clockwise horizontally) path to meet the right elbow at the focal point of the maneuver. |
4) |
Execute a right, inward (horizontal) elbow sandwich (toward right-front-flank) to chest height, while maintaining the same relative alignments of your stance. |
Visualization: |
The focal point of next three maneuvers (5-7) is executed to the same relative position in space. |
5) |
Execute a right outward heel-palm to chest height directly forward (toward right-front-flank), palm and fingers pointing outward (toward right-rear-flank) and knuckles pointing forward (toward right-front-flank), while maintaining both your left hand positioning and orientation (against your right elbow) and the positioning and alignments of your stance. |
Elaboration: |
The pivot point of the previous maneuver (5) uses the elbow as the primary pivot point for the delivery of the strike, which then converts to the wrist after the focal point of the strike to get the final positioning of the hand. |
Visualization: |
The path that the previous maneuver (5) should be a circular path of travel (clockwise horizontally) which is created by extending the arm without any significant movement of the shoulder or elbow. |
6) |
Reverse the circular path of the right hand (counter-clockwise horizontally) to deliver a right, inverted, inward claw to front (toward right-front-flank) at shoulder height, palm and fingers pointing to the right (toward right-rear-flank) and knuckles pointing forward (toward right-front-flank), concluding with your hand fully open over the right shoulder, palm pointing upward (toward up) and fingers pointing backward (toward upper-left-rear-flank) with a left, thrusting, forward (punching) hand-sword to shoulder height, palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing to the right (toward right-rear-flank), as you simultaneously rotate (clockwise horizontally) into a right forward bow facing forward (toward right-front-flank). |
Elaboration: |
The timing of the previous maneuver (6) should be such that it starts with the right hand moving first, followed by the left hand, and then immediately followed by the stance rotation, but completes with all the movements of the maneuver concluding at the same time. |
7) |
Rotate (counter-clockwise horizontally) into a right neutral bow facing forward (toward right-front-flank) with the delivery of a right, hammering, inward hand-sword to shoulder height, palm pointing diagonally-upward (toward upper-left-front-flank) and fingers pointing forward (toward right-front-flank), simultaneously with the retraction (toward left-rear-flank) of your left hand to a positional cover position at chest height. |
Explanation: |
Although the following foot maneuvers (8a-b) constitute a chicken kick (i.e. a single maneuver), the individual components are illustrated separately for more clarity and detail. |
8a) |
Execute a right, front scoop kick (toward right-front-flank) to knee height as you simultaneously retract your right hand back to a positional cover at shoulder height. |
Elaboration: |
The execution of the next maneuver should be timed such that the right foot plants onto the ground just prior to the left foot's execution focal point. |
8b) |
As you replant (toward down) your right foot next to (toward right-rear-flank) your left foot, immediately execute a left, snapping, front kick (toward right-front-flank) to hip height, while maintaining the same relative positioning of both your hands. |
