Explanation: |
The following maneuver (1a) is not considered part of the technique, but rather a transitional maneuver between sides of the technique. |
1a) |
Direct your attention 45 degrees (counter-clockwise horizontally) to your left (toward front) as you plant your left foot to your right (toward right-flank) into a right, modified, rear twist stance facing offset forward (toward front), as you simultaneously drop (toward down) of both your open hands in front of their respective sides at hip height, palms pointing inward (left toward right-rear-flank / right toward left-front-flank) and fingers pointing downward (toward down), in preparation for the next maneuver. |
Clarification: |
The twist stance (1a) is called modified because the attention point of the stance is shifted 90 degrees to the right (toward front) of the alignment of the stance (toward left-flank) and the left foot is planted onto and remains on the ball of the foot throughout the transition |
Clarification: |
The planting of the right foot should be interpreted as a right stomp (to the Achilles tendon on the back of the right leg of the potential opponent's ankle. |
1b) |
Right step to your right (toward right-flank) as you jump (toward right-flank) into a right one-legged stance facing forward (toward front) with the delivery of a left, thrusting, vertical, inward middle knuckle to rib height, palm pointing inward (toward right-flank) and knuckles pointing forward (toward front), simultaneously with the delivery of a right inward parry to face height (toward front). |
Visualization: |
The retraction of the left foot can be visualized as a left, glancing instep kick (toward right flank) to the inside of the potential opponent's left leg. |
Elaboration: |
The inward middle-knuckle (1b) should continue past its focal point and conclude on the right side of the body at rib height. |
2) |
Redirect your attention 45 degrees to your left (counter-clockwise horizontally) as you deliver a left, thrusting, diagonally-downward side kick (toward lower-left-front-flank) to knee height, while maintaining the same relative positioning and orientation of your hands. |
Elaboration: |
The conclusion of the kick (2) should be with the foot fully extended (not retracted), such that the step of the next maneuver (3) starts where the kick concludes, traveling directly downward (toward down). |
Clarification: |
The planting of the left foot should be interpreted as a left stomp (to the Achilles tendon on the back of the left leg of the potential opponent's ankle and executed to be in-sync with the back-knuckle strike. |
3) |
Plant your left foot into a left neutral bow facing forward (toward left-front-flank) with the delivery of a left, thrusting, diagonally-downward, outward back-knuckle (toward lower-left-front-flank) to rib height, palm pointing diagonally-upward (toward upper-right-rear-flank) and knuckles pointing to the right (toward right-flank), while maintaining the same relative positioning and orientation of your right hand. |
Visualization: |
The left arm of the next maneuver (4) should essentially ratchet from the conclusion of the previous maneuver (3), only to the new height, while the right hand travels on a slight arcing (counter-clockwise horizontally) path to meet the left elbow at the focal point of the maneuver. |
4) |
Execute a left, inward (horizontal) elbow sandwich (toward left-front-flank) to chest height, while maintaining the same relative alignments of your stance. |
Visualization: |
The focal point of next three maneuvers (5-7) is executed to the same relative position in space. |
5) |
Execute a left outward heel-palm to chest height directly forward (toward left-front-flank), palm and fingers pointing outward (toward left-rear-flank) and knuckles pointing forward (toward left-front-flank), while maintaining both your right hand positioning and orientation (against your left elbow) and the positioning and alignments of your stance. |
Elaboration: |
The pivot point of the previous maneuver (5) uses the elbow as the primary pivot point for the delivery of the strike, which then converts to the wrist after the focal point of the strike to get the final positioning of the hand. |
Visualization: |
The path that the previous maneuver (5) should be a circular path of travel (counter-clockwise horizontally) which is created by extending the arm without any significant movement of the shoulder or elbow. |
6) |
Reverse the circular path of the left hand (clockwise horizontally) to deliver a left, inverted, inward claw to front (toward left-front-flank) at shoulder height, palm and fingers pointing to the left (toward left-rear-flank) and knuckles pointing forward (toward left-front-flank), concluding with your hand fully open over the left shoulder, palm pointing upward (toward up) and fingers pointing backward (toward upper-right-rear-flank) with a right, thrusting, forward (punching) hand-sword to shoulder height, palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing to the left (toward left-rear-flank), as you simultaneously rotate (counter-clockwise horizontally) into a left forward bow facing forward (toward left-front-flank). |
Elaboration: |
The timing of the previous maneuver (6) should be such that it starts with the left hand moving first, followed by the right hand, and then immediately followed by the stance rotation, but completes with all the movements of the maneuver concluding at the same time. |
7) |
Rotate (clockwise horizontally) into a left neutral bow facing forward (toward left-front-flank) with the delivery of a left, hammering, inward hand-sword to shoulder height, palm pointing diagonally-upward (toward upper-right-front-flank) and fingers pointing forward (toward left-front-flank), simultaneously with the retraction (toward right-rear-flank) of your right hand to a positional cover position at chest height. |
Explanation: |
Although the following foot maneuvers (8a-b) constitute a chicken kick (i.e. a single maneuver), the individual components are illustrated separately for more clarity and detail. |
8a) |
Execute a left, front scoop kick (toward left-front-flank) to knee height as you simultaneously retract your left hand back to a positional cover at shoulder height. |
Elaboration: |
The execution of the next maneuver should be timed such that the left foot plants onto the ground just prior to the right foot's focal point. |
8b) |
As you replant (toward down) your left foot next to (toward left-rear-flank) your right foot, immediately execute a right, snapping, front kick (toward left-front-flank) to hip height, while maintaining the same relative positioning of both your hands. |
