The following upper body sequence (1a-3) should create a somewhat diagonally-rotated (counter-clockwise vertically and clockwise horizontally), overlapping figure 8, partially circular and partially linear; slightly offset to the left of and in front of the body; diagonally-oriented away from the body (on a left-front-flank to right-rear-flank line). |
1a) |
Direct your attention 90-degrees (counter-clockwise) to your left (toward right-rear-flank) as you settle (toward down) into a left, modified, 45-degree, cat stance facing forward (toward rear) with the execution of a right, downward, push-down block to lower rib height slightly to the left (toward right-flank) of your (vertical) center-line, parallel to both your body and the ground, palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing to the left (toward right-flank), as you simultaneously retract (toward right-front-flank) your left arm to a chambered position, palm pointing upward (toward up), in preparation for the next maneuver. |
Clarification: |
The cat stance of the previous maneuver (1a) is called modified because its alignments are oriented forward, but the attention is offset 45-degrees to the left. |
1b) |
Immediately, execute a left, thrusting, rising (toward up), back-knuckle to face height in front of the left shoulder region, palm pointing downward (toward down) and knuckles pointing slightly to the left (toward rear), as you maintain the same relative orientation and positioning of your left hand. |
Visualization: |
The left arm of the previous maneuver (1b) now begins to travel on the figure 8 pattern. |
Elaboration: |
Although the following lower body maneuvers (2-3) are explained independently, combined together they create a side chicken kick. |
2) |
Without any loss of momentum of your left arm, circle (counter-clockwise vertically) your left arm inward, downward, and to your right to deliver a left, hammering, inward and diagonally-downward, outside forearm (toward lower-left-front-flank) to abdomen height, palm pointing diagonally-upward and to the right (toward upper-left-flank) and knuckles point slightly to the right (toward left-rear-flank), with a right, thrusting, 4-finger, poke to eye height in front of the left shoulder area (toward upper-right-rear-flank), palm pointing diagonally-downward (toward lower-right-rear-flank) and fingers pointing diagonally-forward and upward (toward upper-right-rear-flank), simultaneously with a right, thrusting, instep (arch) kick to shin height; on the same line of execution as the right hand, arch pointing diagonally-forward and to the right (toward right-rear-flank). |
Visualization: |
The left arm of the previous maneuver (2) continues on the figure 8 pattern with the right hand creating the overlapping (and linear) portion of the figure 8 pattern; and the right foot relatively mirroring the line created by the right hand. |
3) |
Switch the positioning of your feet (hop switch) as you deliver a left, snapping, outward, back-knuckle (toward upper-right-rear-flank) to face height, in-sync with a left, snapping, side kick (toward right-rear-flank) to knee height, as you retract (toward lower-left-front-flank) your right hand to a positional cover at left chest, palm pointing diagonally-forward (toward right-rear-flank) and finger pointing upward (toward up). |
Elaboration: |
The timing of the previous maneuver (3) should have the right foot be firmly planted on the ground before the potential contact points of both the hand and foot are reached. Also, the head orientation and positioning should not be altered by the foot maneuver. |
Visualization: |
The left arm and foot of the previous maneuver (3) relatively retrace the linear, overlapping portion of the figure 8; with the foot remaining on a linear line of travel, but the hand returning on an elongated circular path of travel. |
Clarification: |
The method of execution of the strikes of the previous maneuver (3) are considered snapping due to the fact that their retraction is used as part of the execution of the following maneuver sequence. |
