Gathering Clouds (left side)

Explanation:

The following maneuver (1a) is not considered part of the technique, but rather a transitional maneuver between the two sides of the techniques. It is included with this side of the technique because it more logically fits with it.

1a)

Direct your attention 180-degrees (counter-clockwise horizontally) to your left (toward right-flank) as you left step reverse (toward left-flank) into a right, transitory, modified, twist stance facing forward (toward right-flank), in preparation for the next maneuver.

Clarification:

The twist stance of the previous maneuver (1a) is called modified because it is extremely shallow and improperly rotated.

Visualization:

During the foot movement of the previous maneuver (1a), the toes of the left foot should touch (or almost touch) the outside edge of the right foot at the heel.

1b)

Unwind (counter-clockwise horizontally) into a transitory, modified, natural stance facing forward (toward right-flank) with the drop (toward down) of both your open hands in front of their respective sides at hip height, palms pointing inward (right toward font / left toward rear) and fingers pointing downward (toward down), in preparation for the next maneuver.

Clarification:

The natural stance of the previous maneuver (1b) is called modified because of the wide positioning of the feet, the exaggerated bending of the knees, and the slight forward positioning of the arms (in front of the hips instead of being directly to the side).

1c)

Right step to your right (toward rear) and settle (toward down) into a horse, facing forward (toward right-flank), along with a right inward parry (toward right-flank) to lower face height, palm pointing to your left (toward front) and fingers pointing upward (toward up), in-sync with the execution of a left, raking, vertical-inward, middle-knuckle to rib level, with palm (initially) pointing to your right (toward rear) and knuckles pointing forward (toward right-flank); with both upper-body maneuvers concluding on opposite sides of the body, maintaining their stated height and proper orientations.

Elaboration:

The inward parry of the previous maneuver (1c) should be executed on a more linear path of travel, while the middle-knuckle (1c) should be executed on a more (horizontally) circular path of travel; both being executed simultaneously and concluding with the final settle into the horse stance.

Variation:

The middle-knuckle of the previous maneuver (1c) may rebound off the body (elastic recoil) into the delivery of the next maneuver (2a), thus enhancing it.

2a)

Left step forward (toward right-flank) into a left, modified, 45-degree, cat stance facing forward (toward right-flank) with a left, thrusting, horizontal, outward, hand-sword (toward left-front-flank) to upper rib height, palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing to the right (toward right-rear-flank), while shifting (toward rear) and converting your right hand to a positional cover in front of your right shoulder area, palm pointing to the left (toward front) and fingers pointing upward (toward up), in preparation for the next maneuver.

Clarification:

The cat stance of the previous maneuver (2a) is called modified because the right foot does not rotate (clockwise horizontally) from its previous orientation (toward right-flank) until the following maneuver.

Visualization:

The left hand of the previous maneuver (2a) should conclude its motion with the elbow bent at roughly a 45-degree angle, relatively parallel to the ground, and should not be retracted prior to the next maneuver (thus thrusting method of execution - not elastic recoil [snapping]). To accomplish this the practitioner should envision that this maneuver makes contact and sticks to that contact point, in preparation for the maneuver.

2b)

Left step forward (toward right-flank) into a left neutral bow facing forward (toward right-flank) with a left, thrusting, inward, horizontal, elbow sandwich (with right hand) to face height, right palm pointing to left (toward front) and fingers point forward (toward right-flank).

Visualization:

The execution of the elbow in the previous maneuver (2b) should use the change in stance depth and rotation (into neutral) to allow for the left hand to maintain its same relative spatial positioning (i.e. left hand is pivot point) throughout the maneuver.

Visualization:

The combination of the two previous maneuvers (2a-2b) of the right arm should create a ratcheting effect with the tip of the fingers as the pivot point, rather than a rebounding effect using the elbow as the pivot point.
