Five Swords (left side)

Visualization:

Although the upper body offensive maneuvers of the following sequence (1a-4) tend to maintain a relatively linear motion, combined together all the motions approximate a figure 8 pattern diagonally-oriented in front of the body interspersed with linear paths that are relatively perpendicular to the body.

Elaboration:

The following two maneuvers (1a-1b) are executed such that they overlap in time, where the second maneuver (1b) starts as the first maneuver (1a) comes to completion.

1a)

Deliver a right, hammering, downward block (toward front) as you maintain the same spatial positioning and orientation of your left hand and stance.

Clarification:

All the remaining maneuvers of this sequence (1b-4) are executed by extending the main maneuvering weapon in-sync with the retraction of the passive weapon such that it is cocked in preparation for its delivery as the main maneuvering weapon for the following maneuver.

1b)

Left step behind (toward rear) and around (clockwise horizontally) your right foot, and then forward (toward front) into a left neutral bow with a left, thrusting, inward block (toward front), while allowing your right arm to hang at your right side (toward right-rear-flank), in preparation for the next maneuver.

Visualization:

At the end of the previous maneuver (1b), direct line of sight for the right hand to the attention point (toward front) should not be lost.

Elaboration:

The following maneuver sequence (1c-2) should be timed such that the both the first maneuver (1c) and the second maneuver (2) use the rotational shift (counter-clockwise horizontally) to enhance the delivery of the strikes - the first maneuver at the beginning of the rotation, the second maneuver at the end of the rotation.

1c)

Begin to shift (counter-clockwise horizontally) your stance forward into a left, modified, neutral bow as you deliver a left, hammering, outward and diagonally-downward, hand-sword (toward front) to neck height, palm pointing to the left and diagonally-downward (toward lower-right-flank) and fingers pointing forward and diagonally-upward (toward upper-right-front-flank), while simultaneously beginning to open and orient your right hand, in preparation for the next maneuver.

Clarification:

The neutral bow of the previous maneuver (1c) is called modified because the rotation of the stance is in transition between a neutral bow (1b) and a forward bow (2).

2)

Without any loss of momentum, continue to shift (counter-clockwise horizontally) your stance into a left forward bow facing forward (toward front) with a right, thrusting, 4-finger, poke to eye height (toward front), palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing forward (toward front), as you simultaneously retract (toward rear) your left hand to chambered position.

3)

Shift (clockwise horizontally) your stance back into a left neutral bow facing forward (toward front) with a left, thrusting, upper-cut punch to rib height (toward front), palm pointing diagonally-upward (toward upper-rear) and knuckles pointing forward and diagonally-upward (toward upper-front), as you retract (toward left-flank) your right open hand at your left shoulder area, palm pointing diagonally upward (toward upper-rear) and fingers pointing to your left (toward left-flank).

4)

Right step behind your left foot and to your left (toward left-rear-flank) into a left, modified, forward bow facing forward (toward right-front-flank) as you deliver a right, thrusting, outward, hand-sword (toward right-front-flank) to neck height, palm pointing downward (toward down) and fingers pointing to the left (toward front), with the retraction (toward upper-left-rear-flank) of your left hand to your left upper shoulder area, palm pointing forward (toward right-front-flank) and fingers pointing to your right (toward right-rear-flank).

Clarification:

The forward bow of the previous maneuver (3) is called modified because the alignments and orientation are shifted (clockwise horizontally) 45-degrees to the right (toward right-front-flank), but the attention is maintained on the same line (toward front).

5)

Shift (clockwise horizontally) and settle (toward down) into a left, modified, neutral bow facing forward (toward right-front-flank) as you deliver a left, hammering, downward, hand-sword (toward down) to abdomen height in front of your body (toward right-front-flank), palm pointing to your right (toward right-rear-flank) and fingers pointing forward and to your right (toward right-flank), while you simultaneously retract (toward left-rear-flank) your right hand to a positional cover at rib height, palm point forward (toward right-front-flank) and fingers pointing upward (toward up).

Clarification:

The neutral bow of the previous maneuver (4) is called modified because although the alignments and orientation remain shifted (clockwise horizontally) 45-degrees to the right (toward right-front-flank), the attention is also maintained on the same line (toward front).

Elaboration:

The left hand of the previous maneuver (4) should continue its path of travel after the end of the prior sequence (4), not coming to a complete stop; and continuing to move after its focal point, thus aiding the motion of the first maneuver of the next technique.
