Comments:

Retaliatory Choice is non-specific as to type of maneuver or method (e.g. defensive, offensive, or both), just that one is made.

Retaliatory Choice is non-specific as to when the decision is made. This can be: prior to, during, or after the combat.

Retaliatory Choice prior to combat are based upon reading the situation and choosing the appropriate response. This brings in the concepts, such as: Eight Considerations, Stages of Range, Strategic Recognition, Strategic Ploy, Deceptive Action, Anticipated Variable, Reactionary Anticipation, Reactionary Set-up, etc.

Retaliatory Choice during combat should give the impression to the opponent(s) that the choices were spontaneous and random and therefore non-predictable. This brings in concepts, such as: Formulation Equation (i.e. Adjust, Alter), Compensate, Read, Unanticipated Variable, Mental Speed, etc.

Often the analysis after the actual combat is used as a learning tool to make better choices in future combat. This brings in concepts, such as: Common Sense, What-if Phase, Economy of Motion, Combat Effectiveness, Harmony, etc.
