An easy way of understanding Penetration Point is that its purpose is to allow for proper energy transfer into the target by providing for proper penetration into the target when striking it - before tightening the weapon.
One of the main purposes of envisioning a Penetration Point is that it reminds the practitioner to remain loose upon contact until proper penetration is achieved (beyond .
Penetration Point is specific to penetrating strikes (i.e. punches, kicks, back-knuckles, heel-palms, pokes, etc.) and typically not for surface strikes (i.e. claws, rakes, slices, etc.) - even though these strikes do require a degree of penetration (but used for other purposes).
Penetration Point purposely does not specify Method of Execution but is typically most closely associated with Hammering and Thrusting (see previous comments).
The specific depth of a Penetration Point varies with target, but for the core of the body, head, and lower extremities it is typically between about an inch to two (2) inches. For upper extremities it would be about an inch or slightly less.
