Ideal Execution

Written Illustration:

Situation

You are in a left neutral bow (facing 12:00H) (ready position) with your right arm in a wide vertical blocking position (on the right edge of your torso) (baiting) and your left hand, palm down (toward 6:00V), covering your groin area) (positioned cover), while the opponent (toward 12:00H) (facing 6:00H) delivers a left, step-through, straight, thrust punch to your upper torso or face area.

Note

Your arms at the start of this technique are positioned purposely wide in order to bait the opponent into punching you.

1)

Step your left foot (toward 3:00H) (off the line of attack) into a left modified twist (toward 3:00H) (facing 12:00H), while simultaneously delivering a right inward parrying block (toward 7:30H), palm to your left (toward 3:00H), to the outside of the opponent’s left elbow.  Immediately replace your right blocking arm with a left extended outward block (toward 9:00H), palm forward (toward 12:00H), to the outside of the opponent’s left elbow, while simultaneously dropping (toward 5:00V) your right arm to your right side, in preparation for the next move.  Without any loss of motion from the previous moves, step your right foot forward (toward 12:00H) into a right neutral bow (facing 12:00H), while simultaneously looping (counter clockwise V) around and behind (toward 12:00H) the opponent’s head (obscure zone) to deliver a right, inverted looping, overhead punch (toward 6:00H), palm away from you (toward 12:00H), to the back of the opponent’s upper neck (major).

Result

The opponent’s head and upper body should begin to bend forward (toward 6:00H).

2)

Immediately, shift forward (clockwise H) into a right forward bow (toward 12:00H) with a left, thrusting, straight elbow (toward 12:00H) to the opponent’s left ribcage (minor), while simultaneously dropping (toward 6:00V) your right hand, palm facing away from you (toward 3:00H), to the outside of the opponent’s left arm (positional cover).

Result

The forward momentum of the opponent’s upper body should be halted and reversed (toward 12:00H), while the opponent’s left arm begins to cover their left ribcage.

Tip

Make sure to anchor your right elbow (toward 6:00V), in order to improve the body alignment, and thus increase the bracing ability of your right hand and arm.

3)

Immediately, shift back (counter clockwise H) into a right neutral bow (facing 12:00H) with the raising of your left arm, using your elbow as the pivot point, to a left vertical blocking position (pressing check), palm facing you (toward 3:00H), to the outside of the opponent’s left elbow, while simultaneously looping (counter clockwise H) your right arm around and behind your opponent’s lower back (toward 12:00H) to deliver a right inward hammer-fist, palm up (toward 12:00H), to the opponent’s left kidney area (major).

Tip

The circle of your right arm should begin by traveling over your head, before extending in back of the opponent, to increase path of travel of your weapon.

Result

The backward momentum of your opponent’s body should be halted and again reversed (toward 6:00H), while the opponent begins to collapse (toward 6:00V) to their knees (facing 6:00H).

4)

Retract both your arms (toward 6:00H) to blocking positions (positional cover) as you cross-out and cover (toward 6:00H).
