Ideal Execution

Written Illustration:

Situation:

You are in a right neutral bow with the opponent (to your front) executing a right step-through knife thrust.

1)

Move your left foot up the circle (toward right rear) to get off the line of attack. As you shorten the circle, deliver a right inward handsword to the inside of the opponent's right, thrusting, arm, striking the radial nerve of his wrist, your left hand hanging naturally at your left thigh. Immediately grab his right wrist with your right hand to minimize the angle of versatility of his knife.

Result:

The strike to the radial nerve should cause the opponent to drop his weapon; the grab backs this up and sets up counter-manipulation.

2)

Having disarmed the opponent, push-drag forward, delivering a left underhand heel-palm strike and grab to his groin, your right hand still controlling his right wrist.

3)

Step your right foot back (toward rear) into a left neutral bow (facing forward). As you step back, control-manipulate the opponent's right arm with a lock and twist, using small circles, keeping the knife blade, if still held, pointed away from you and toward him.

Result:

The opponent should bend forward at the waist, his right wrist breaking from the lock and twist.

4)

Execute a front chicken kick: a left front snapping ball kick to the opponent's left ribcage, then a right front snapping ball kick to his sternum.

Result:

The opponent should be stunned.

5)

As you plant your right foot forward into a right neutral bow (facing forward), deliver a right underhand stiff-arm lifting back-knuckle strike underneath the opponent's chin, your left hand checking his right shoulder.

Result:

His head should snap up.

6)

With your strike passing through and above his head, immediately reverse the path of travel, delivering a right downward back-knuckle strike to the bridge of his nose, your left hand still checking his right shoulder.

Result:

The opponent's head should be driven down.

7)

Circle your right arm in a figure-eight pattern: first counter-clockwise, striking with a right hammer-fist to the left side of his face, then clockwise, striking with a right back-knuckle to the right side of his face.

Result:

These strikes should stun the opponent.

8)

With the opponent bending forward at the waist, step forward with your left foot into a left neutral bow (facing forward). As you step forward, hook your right hand, shaped like a crane, over and under his right elbow, hooking his arm out and away from you. Simultaneously execute a left vertical elbow strike to the underside of his right armpit.

9)

Moving (toward left front), execute a right rear crossover, or drag step, stepping out into a left reverse bow, buckling the inside of the opponent's right leg with your right leg. As you buckle, deliver a right downward hammer-fist to his mastoid, simultaneously delivering a left hammer-fist to his right ribcage.

Result:

This offensive use of the universal block should stun the opponent and drive him away.

10)

Left front crossover and cover out twice (toward right rear).
