Not only where the self-defense techniques of Short Form Three purposely chosen, they were specifically included in Short Form Three for the particular attributes they contain and demonstrate. Each technique was painstakingly selected to reveal and feature specific concepts, principles and physical motions in such a way that Short Form Three not only continues the continuity established in the first four (4) forms, but also to start a new flow of continuity into the remaining forms of American Kenpo.
One other thing to consider, aside from what technique to include, was where in the form a technique should be executed. Sometimes the order was mandated based upon what the technique illustrates and/or how it fits into the overall continuity within the form and between forms. Other times, the specific order of a technique was not as critical and could be moved to a new position within the form without cascading effects.
