Destructive Twins / Crashing Wings - Transition

This variation is generally considered both non-destructive and destructive, depending upon variation.

 

The opening and raising (cocking) of both hands in preparation to the execution of Crashing Wings can be altered in a number of ways.

 

a) Raising the hands too high (Non-Destructive)

This variation is accomplished by raising the hands above head height, during the transition. Although executing the maneuver in this manner is non-destructive, it breaks the Outer Rim concept and demonstrates that either the practitioner does not understand this concept or that they are ignoring it - either of which is not complimentary to the practitioner, from an observer's perspective.

 

b) Finger Thrust (Destructive)

This variation is accomplished by thrusting the fingers forward to simulate a double, four finger thrust to the potential opponent's eyes, rather than just raising the hands in preparation for the next maneuver. This variation can typically only be spotted by intensity and speed of execution, rather than by any real physical variation.

 

Rationale For

The rationale for this variation is to remove the 'wasted motion' of the cocking of the hands without any specific purpose and/or to insert a double, four finger thrust into the category of finger maneuvers.

 

Rationale Against

The rationale against this variation is that during the execution of the maneuver there is no stable base and the maneuver is therefore ineffective and should not be executed in this manner. Also, the change of intent in the maneuver changes the information imparted by the need to cock the weapons, prior to the proper execution of Crashing Wings.

 

c) Inserting a finger flick and/or a thumb poke to the potential opponent's eyes (Destructive)

This variation is also known as the Thrusting Wedge variation. It is called this due to the fact that the motion somewhat resembles the beginning of Thrusting Wedge. This variation is typically executed using the index and/or middle finger(s) to slice the potential opponent's eyes in an upward flicking motion (toward 12:00H / 12:00V), followed immediately by a double thumb thrust to the potential opponent's eyes (toward 12:00H / 9:00V). Also, the upward flicking motion is sometimes said to be used to raise the potential opponent's eye glasses (if they are wearing any), along with the slicing maneuver (i.e., a sophisticated basic).

 

Rationale For

The rationale for this variation is to remove the 'wasted motion' of the cocking of the hands without any specific purpose and/or to insert a double, upward, two finger slice and a double thumb thrust into the category of finger maneuvers.

 

Rationale Against

The rationale against this variation is that during the execution of the maneuver there is no stable base and the maneuver is therefore ineffective and should not be executed in this manner. Also, the change of intent in the maneuver changes the information imparted by the need to cock the weapons, prior to the proper execution of Crashing Wings.
