Conquering Shield - Elbow

This variation is generally considered non-destructive.

The upward elbow is varied by how far the rotation of the stance is executed in-sync with the elbow's execution - i.e., from a neutral bow or a fighting horse stance. This variation is considered non-destructive because it generally doesn't change any significant information presented in the form.

Rationale for Neutral Bow

The rationale for rotating into a neutral bow is that the amount of rotation is sufficient and therefore any further rotation is not needed.

Rationale for Fighting Horse

The rationale for rotating into a fighting horse is that this amount of rotation allows for both more reach with the front hand (for smaller people against larger people) and more pull of the opponent into the elbow strike. Secondly, the extra rotation into the fighting horse maneuvers the practitioner into a position in which they may enhance the effectiveness of the following maneuver by taking advantage of the extra potential torque (i.e., rotation back into the neutral bow) this stance provides.
