We are taught Short Form One on both sides in my studio. Why does this guide only illustrate the form on the Right Side?

Learning and executing Short Form One on both sides is fine, but is not necessary from a system perspective. The opposite side (the left side) is already presented in the second half of Long Form One (during the triple block section), and therefore is not needed – again from a system point of view. The practice of doing the left side of Short Form One has been around for a long time. It originated for tournament competition, in order to make the form longer and in an attempt to get better scoring from the officiating judges.
