Chapter 4 - Execution of Short Form One

In this section, we will discuss the execution of Short Form One. The execution presented, for the purposes of this discussion, will be considered the standard execution of the form. All information about the form will be derived from this standard of execution. This does not mean there are not legitimate variations to this standard.

For instance, one of the most common variations to the form is to execute Short Form One on both the right and left side. The logic behind this typically stems from the fact that the left side picks up the opposite information of the right side. This is correct. But, execution of the left side is not necessary because the opposite information is presented in Long Form One - during the triple block section.

It is commonly thought that the left side was added to make the form longer for competition. Eight simple moves just wasn't long enough to compete with against other styles. Doubling the form still did not make it dynamic for open competition, but it did make the form longer. This change then filtered its way back into the studio, and became the "standard" way to execute the form - for that group and their lineage.

But, the reader should take note: The scenario presented above does not mean that executing both the right and left side is wrong. It just means that it is not necessary to the system. Executing the left side of Short Form One is redundant information as it relates to the system, not wrong information. Just as executing any form on the left side is possible, that does not mean it is necessary from a system standpoint.
