Front (Kicks)

A distinct type of kicking strike which is physically distinguishable by striking in a linear, forward direction - making contact with the ball of the foot, toes pointing upward.

Comments:

This kick is most typically effected on a relatively horizontal line, but may be executed on a slight upward or downward slope, depending upon need.

By definition, this kick either uses a Thrusting (or Snapping) Method of Execution.

From one perspective, this kick is the lower body equivalent to the straight punch.

The word front, in this case, is equivalent to forward.

Ball (kick)

Derivation:

This kick derives its name from the fact that it is practiced as being delivered straight ahead (i.e. to the front).

Historically speaking, this kick was referred to as the Ball kick. That name was eventually replaced (in the early 1970's) with front kick.
