This variation is generally considered both non-destructive, but could be destructive.
The heel-palm to the groin of the technique is not executed. This variation is accomplished by eliminating the heel-palm to the groin of the technique (#3) and moving directly into the leg pick (#4a). This variation basically comes down to an argument of redundancy over realism.
(Note: If the heel-palm is eliminated in both Form Five and Form Six, then the variation would be considered destructive)
Rationale For
The rationale for this variation is that the same move is executed in Form Six (Escape from the Storm) and therefore does not need to be demonstrated at this point in Form Five. It is redundant and can be eliminated.
Rationale Against
The rationale against this variation is to be more realistic in execution and more in-line with the execution outside of the form. Yes, it is redundant, but that is irrelevant because it does not affect the form.
