Break the Heel

An idiom describing the lifting of the rear heel prior to, or during, a Step Through Reverse Foot Maneuver.

Breaking the Heel is typically done by the inexperienced or inattentive practitioner.

 

Breaking the Heel is a specific type of Cheating, referring specifically to cheating with the back foot.

 

Breaking the Heel is a term that describes a movement that should not be executed.  Breaking the Heel violates the principle of Economy of Motion and creates a Telegraphing move.

 

The most common way to correct this behavior/habit is by first drawing the front foot into a cat stance, at the beginning of the Step-through - thus causing the practitioner's weight to be shifted to the rear foot.
