This is were one is removed from the learning environment and has to actually implement what they learned in a practical and real world setting (i.e. combat). In this setting, one is forced to strip down their skills to the most internalized and effective maneuvers and methods; often eliminating the flowery, visually impressive, and or theoretical.

Practical Kenpo is closely associate with the refrains: "one will fight as they train" and "hard training makes for hard men".

Practical Kenpo can be thought of as combat martial arts - not one that is overly theoretical, over analyzed, or impractical. In this context, this term is the antithesis of slang terms: Paper Tiger or Bullshido.
